St. Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna புனித மேரி கதீட்ரல், யாழ்ப்பாணம்

St. Mary’s Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jaffna located in Gurunagar, a suburb of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. Built by the Dutch along classical lines in the 1790s, St Mary’s Cathedral is astonishingly large, but it’s curious to see corrugated-iron roofing held up by such a masterpiece of wooden vaulting. It’s the main church for Roman Catholics.
Construction of St. Mary’s Church began in 1789 and was completed in 1794.[3] The first parish priest was Rev. Fr. Leonard Rebeiro.[3] The church was built on the site of a thatched house that had previously served as a worshipping place for Jaffna’s Catholics.[4] By the early twentieth century the church, which was now a cathedral, had become too small to accommodate all its worshippers. Construction of a new cathedral began in 1939 but wasn’t completed until 1975

வட இலங்கையில் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தின் புறநகர் பகுதியான குருநகரில் உள்ள யாழ்ப்பாண ரோமன் கத்தோலிக்க மறைமாவட்டம் அமைந்துள்ளது. 1790 களில் பாரம்பரிய வரிகளுடன் டச்சு ஆல் கட்டப்பட்டது, செயின்ட் மேரியின் கதீட்ரல் வியக்கத்தக்க வகையில் பெரியதாக உள்ளது, ஆனால் இது மரம் வால்டிங் போன்ற தலைசிறந்த படைப்புகளால் நடத்தப்படும் நெளிவு-இரும்பு கூரைகளைக் காண ஆர்வமாக இருக்கிறது. இது ரோமன் கத்தோலிக்கர்களுக்கான முக்கிய தேவாலயமாகும்.
